What to Order at Armonía Kitchen: My Picks

Here are a few of my favorites if you’re having a hard time choosing what to order:

  • Favorite drink: Strawberry Matcha — real strawberry, high-quality matcha, perfectly balanced and sweet without being overdone
  • Most surprising drink: Chaga Latte — don’t let the mushroom aspect scare you; this makes for a wonderful coffee alternative
  • Favorite bowl: Recharge Bowl — beautiful presentation, the blackberry and cacao nibs are the unsuspecting stars, and the almond butter ties everything together
  • Favorite savory dish: Carne Asada Panini — perfectly cooked meat, great seasoning, packed with flavor
  • Runner-up savory: Chilaquiles — large portion, consistent bites, wonderful avocado and pickled onion combo

The Vibe and Atmosphere

Armonía Kitchen is small and easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, especially sitting along the busy street of Garnet Ave. Step inside and it feels completely removed from the high energy of Pacific Beach. Here, you can slow down, take your time, and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.

The Service

The service matches the atmosphere perfectly. You order at the counter, which gives this restaurant a more casual feel. Everyone is kind and welcoming. The staff is present when you need something but never hovering. You’re given space to settle in and move through your meal at your own pace.

What I Ordered

Drinks

This is my favorite drink at Armonía. It’s bright and fruity, sweet but not overwhelming, and the matcha quality underneath is fantastic. Not too strong, not grassy. Everything is balanced and complementary. If you’re not sure what to order, I recommend starting here.

chaga mushroom latte from armonia kitchen pacific beach

I was skeptical about this one. Mushroom coffee sounds like a wellness trend that tastes like dirt (just being honest), but Armonía makes their chaga powder in-house, and the result is surprisingly tasty. It’s a little mushroom-y and slightly grainy on the first sip, but the longer you drink it, the more you forget it isn’t a regular cup of coffee. If you’ve been curious about mushroom coffee but haven’t actually tried it yet, this is a low-risk way to find out if it’s for you.

This drink has delicate foam on top, a light cinnamon flavor that’s present without taking over, and a banana note that’s subtle but definitely there. It’s creamy, a little grainy, and overall well-balanced. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this one, but I ended up loving it. If you enjoy the flavor of banana, try this one.

berry love smoothie from armonia kitchen pacific beach

Like the name suggests, if you love berries, this smoothie is made for you. It’s tart in a good way, with a slightly textured feel from the seeds, and the açaí adds a bit of depth to round it out. The flavor is straightforward — very much a true berry smoothie.

While it didn’t stand out to me compared to some of Armonía’s more unique offerings, it’s a safe choice if you’re in the mood for a classic.

Food

This is my favorite dish at Armonía. The sandwich is flavorful, well-seasoned, and features a sauce that’s slightly tangy and works well with the meat. The bread has a nice crisp to it, and the carne asada inside is cooked perfectly. The peppers and veggies keep it feeling fresh and light. It’s served with a small side of coleslaw.

The presentation of this bowl alone is incredible. It’s easily one of the prettiest dishes I’ve had in San Diego. The açaí base is on the thinner side, but it thickens up nicely as you mix it with the almond butter, which is where the richness comes from. The fruit adds a burst of flavor that lifts the whole bowl — especially the blackberries — and the cacao nibs come through at the end of each bite with a slightly bitter dark chocolate note.

What gives this dish its beautiful blue color is the blue spirulina, an ingredient praised for its concentrated antioxidant and immune-boosting power. The extract has an almost gelatinous texture and not much flavor of its own, but it takes on whatever’s around it. I enjoyed it, but some people may be thrown off by the texture.

These pack a lot of flavor into each bite. The corn tortillas are soft and fresh, and the meat itself is incredibly well-seasoned and savory. It’s topped with a house cashew crema that adds a bright, creamy tang. I enjoyed the combination, but my partner felt like the crema dimmed down the rich flavors of the meat. If you prefer to taste the seasoning more directly, you might want to ask for the sauce on the side.

It’s served with black beans and a bowl of salsa that delivers an intense heat, so proceed with caution if you’re sensitive to spice.

chilaquiles from armonia kitchen pacific beach

The chilaquiles here come in a generous portion size. The dish features a mountain of corn tortilla chips topped with salsa, cashew crema, protein (I ordered mine with grilled chicken), fresh avocado, pickled onion, beans, and more.

Every bite is consistent. There’s a light spice, a nutty depth to the sauce, and great seasoning throughout. The avocado on top adds a cool, creamy contrast to the crunch of the tortilla chips and the bite of the pickled onion.

Altogether, it’s a flavorful plate that leaves you feeling full and satisfied.

Tip: If you’re a chilaquiles fan, I’d also point you toward the version at The Werewolf in the Gaslamp Quarter, a completely different take, but definitely worth trying.

The Location: Pacific Beach and Garnet Ave

Armonía Kitchen is located on Garnet Ave, the main road running through the heart of Pacific Beach. Often referred to as “PB,” this is one of San Diego’s most energetic beach neighborhoods. It’s best known for its iconic boardwalk, vibrant surf culture, and a wide array of bars and restaurants.

If you’re looking for activities to fill your afternoon after brunch, my list of free things to do in San Diego has plenty of incredible options nearby.

A few attractions close to Armonía Cafe:

  • Pacific Beach boardwalk — one of the longest and most active boardwalks in San Diego. Perfect for a post-brunch walk or bike ride, with rentals available right on the boardwalk. A portable beach bag is handy if you’re heading straight from brunch to the sand.
  • Crystal Pier — a historic wooden pier where you can enjoy views of the shore.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay nearby, I’ve covered a few standout San Diego hotels worth checking out. Orli La Jolla is a Michelin Key boutique hotel a short drive up the coast, and the Baby Grand in Coronado is a great option if you want to be near a beach with a different vibe. Final Thoughts

I went to Armonía Kitchen not knowing what to expect, and I left impressed. The drinks were the highlight (especially the Strawberry Matcha) but the food held its own too. The Carne Asada Panini is delicious, the Recharge Bowl is beautiful and satisfying, and the Chilaquiles are full of flavor.
